Because Of The Blood

I made you a flag out of leaves and grass, 
I made you a map out of  blood and glass
we were young, and we still are
we were cold, and it was dark
the tide came running one night
he erased our names from the sand
our hands were black from putting out the fire
talked about boys who dance in white
in our neighbourhood the houses were old,
the trees were young, and the summer sea was cold

because of the blood,
I wash my face in the mud
now I'm someone new
now I don't look like you

I sit by the trees that had no leaves,
let the snow seep into me,
and there's no leaves, but that's the way it was supposed to be
that's the way you could feel our hands 
were black when we were putting out the fire
